A finished bookcase for my Wizard and Wands Bookstore

Last night, I treated myself to 2 little dragons (links and pics to follow) for my Wizards and Wands attic and it got me thinking.... I haven't actually got around to finishing anything for the bookstore in ages! The library room is looking quite full, but the bookstore itself is looking quite bare and the attic floor only has a telescope in it!  So, I curled up on the sofa with my little TV dinner table (they are a perfect size and height to work at) and I finished 'Dressing' one of the bookstore floor bookcases.

I had distressed and aged the store bookcases last year and sort of filled a couple of shelves, so it was just a case of adding finishing touches to some shelves and making books, scrolls, envelope stacks, etc for the other shelves.

It was lovely to sit and make something a little hickedly pickedly looking and grungy in corners, because it is purely for me and will never be put on sale, it didn't matter if it got that little too dusty or if the book pages look a tad over used!

My wand boxes leave a lot to be desired LOL
I still can't decide if they look more like old bread loaves rather than dirty old wand boxes, but in the gloom of the bookstore, they work, so I am happy with them :)

On the top of the bookcase, there are some of my paper bundles and envelope stacks and Kat's sorting hat has a prize spot, perfect for keeping an eye on all the goings on in the shop! :)

This is the bookcase in situ in my Wizards and Wands Bookstore, blending right in :)

You never know, now that I have finished one bookcase, I may be inspired to finish the other one and of course when those little dragons arrive, they will need the attic to be started!! So, 2011 may see some progress on Wizards and Wands, unless I get distracted again of course LOL

                                               * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Hywel on the other hand, spent last night working on the Witches house Commission.

The windows and door are in and are ready to be painted and aged once the roof has been art mached.

Inside, the main room is ready for painting and having the stair spindles put in. This is how it looks now, all white....

and this is how I am hoping  it will look once painted... warmer and softer looking

The floorboards have been sanded, waxed, re-sanded, re-waxed then aged to make them look really old, bumpy and worn. These floorboards took all evening to do, but they look superb for a witches cottage and I have informed Hubby that I want him to do some like for me now LOL

Upstairs, in the smaller room, you can see the beginning of a corner fireplace ...

and that's how far hubby has progressed! I have promised that I will start painting it this afternoon, so no more nattering from me, I am off to get the paint pots and mixing palette out! :0)

The Book Makers Cupboard ~ work in progress :)

I have been slow to get back into my mini making this year... yes, I know we are only six days in to 2011, but I don't normally stop for a break at christmas. However, this year I stopped and found it difficult to start again! Oh, I have had plenty of plans and conversations via emails about ideas for new projects, but I haven't actually got the craft boxes out and made something.. until last night!! Put to shame by Hubby storming ahead on making me shelves to dress and working on the Witches Cottage, I curled up on the sofa for 3 hours and made some paper stacks, leather journals and scrolls... there is still alot to make for this shelf, but I thought you may like a peek at it in progress :)

If you look closely at the print on the scroll between the books, can you see the wizard house chimneys?

Hopefully, tonight I will be able to make a bit more... I am thinking of a shelf full of potions and pots? Some envelope stacks? One of my ink wells and some feather pens? and of course I have to finish filling that top scroll shelf.. my least favourite job!

Anyway, I'll see where my inspiration takes me tonight.. more pics to follow :)

Hope your all having a great day,

Julia xxx

A finished bookcase for Wizards and Wands and a giveaway soon :)

There are lots of shelves to fill in the Wizards and Wands Library and I have been slowly adding to them over the last few months, replacing most of the paper box sets with individual leather books. Well, last week, I'm glad to say that I actually finished one bookcase.. okay, it's the smallest bookcase in the library, but it still took over 50 scrolls just to fill the bottom shelf and then there was the leather books to make! Here it is in place in the library with a little stack of leather books and an open scroll I made too :0)

It seems one of the wizard students have left their pet frog behind :0)

Night Time at Wizards and Wands

Whilst rooting through my 'Lights' tin this week I found a red fireplace bulb. Now, I don't have any lights in Wizards and Wands yet, it was something that I was going to get around to doing and never did.... until this week that is, they are now on order :) Anyway, I popped the fireplace bulb in and took some photos, which turned out to be quite atmospheric, so I thought you might like to see them :0)

The Library at night...

At dawn...

As the sun rises and comes through the window...

WIZARD POLEMONIUM ARRIVES AT WIZARDS AND WANDS

I just knew from the beautiful handwriting on the box, that the contents would be special and on opening, well... I lifted the first layer of tissue paper to see a wonderful whittled wand!

The second layer peeled off to reveal a snugly tucked in Wizard Polemonium :0)

Complete with fabulous treats, there was even a little orange and chocolate rose topped cake for 'our Gertie' and some sweet bags for the wizards sweet shop :0)

Wizard Polemonium is a fabulous wizard, who has come down from Oberons Wood to take charge of the Wizards and Wands Bookstore... well Sambucus is still distracted by the wonderful Aunt Agatha in the library!! :0)

Polemonium's clothing is amazing, lovely colours and really soft.
Look how long his hair is...

'Polemonium is a Grand Wizard.

He is also a very learned man and has written many books on various obscure but interesting subjects.
At present he is writing a discourse on the magical use of chocolate.
He also likes to test all his theories and has found that chocolate cake eaten in large amounts gives one a feeling of tremendous happiness!'

Celia, the wondeful artist who sculpted both my Wizards, always pops something in the box you have to find ;) With Sambucus, it was beautifully ink signed signature in his book, so I had a look through the wonderful scrolls Polemonium brought with him.....

and there it was... beautifully handwritten in ink, Polemonium's findings on chocolate :)

It reads...

'The findings are as follows
Chocolate cake gateux in large amounts gives a feeling of euthoria,
therefore, chocolate cake is happiness'
Signed by polemonium

It's such a lovely touch, thankyou Celia :0)

Here Polemonium is with 'Gibson' the bookstore assistant. They are probably wondering why the shelves behind them are so empty, I must get book-making!

'What's in the box?'.....

Around the corner comes.......

Sambucus Spearwort, the proprietor of The Wizard and Wands Bookstore

Sambucus has come down from Oberons Wood

Where I'm told that....
'Sambucus has been entertaning the children of the Hollow again with his outrageous prophecies. He likes to make most of them up, just for the reaction he gets.

As with most elderly wizards, he loves to tease the young, after all, where's the fun in being old if you can't enjoy yourself, eh

This makes him a popular wizard with the children of the village, who simply adore him.

Sambucus is rather partial to sponge cake, any flavour, as it's the texture he likes most of all.
He is also fond of trifle.
He is hoping to receive both at his birthday party next week.

He predicts it will be violet cake!

Sambucus Spearwort does stoop a little, but he is an elderly gentleman.'

Now he is home..... and Sambucus can't wait to see his beloved Aunt Agatha, whom he has a soft spot for, but won't actually admit too!

Sambucus also has a tale to tell the little witch whom Aunt Agatha has been reading too. I'm sure more witch and wizard children will join the reading group now that Sambucus is there!

Now it's time for Sambucus to take all his papers and books through the secret doorway and upto his attic room.

The magical miniatures Sambucus brought with him from the Hollow

Look, sambucus has even popped his name inside his favourite book, just in case his dear friend Wizard Polemonium picks it up and pops it on the shelf in the bookstore!

Although, for now, Wizard Polemonium is still entertaining everyone back at the hollow but he will be joining Sambucus soon.

So now you know who was in the box ;0) I hope you love him as much as I do, he is absolutely fabalous. Ceila at Oberonswood has some wonderful minis listed in her Etsy store and on her Website. You can also visit her blog and just to give you a little taste of the delights you will find, here are some pics that Celia kindly said I could use :0)

Finally...

To everyone going to Miniatura this weekend, Have a wonderful time, I wish I could there be too, please take heaps of pics for me to drool over!!!

Now I'm off to curl up on the sofa and finish my little shed ;0)
