Maysage and Birch ~ playing around with Ideas

With the dry run of the shop kit done, hubby decided to play around with some ideas to make the new shop match the Wizards and Wands Bookstore. The new shop will sit alongside Wizard and Wands, hopefully on a raised box which will eventually become a goblin bank.

Sorry about the poor quality of the pics, they were taken at various times of day and night and are all jumbled.

First, he put in some partitions so that we could have an impression of a stairway in the rooms.

Then he wood stained the top of the front of the shop... but we hated it... fab if we were making a western scene, but not very witchy!!! So out came the art mache, the walls were covered and then hubby decided to turn the 'cowboy hat' look into a 'bat look' :0)

With it starting to look more 'witchy,' Hubby darkened the windows and decided on a wooden door surround, which he is ageing and making it look worn as I type this ;0)

There is loads for me to do on this project from flagstones to fireplaces and I am going to have great fun decorating it, now that I am 'allowed' to touch it LOL

I spent yesterday 'ageing' the walls and painting the flagstones, but I will pop those pics on next week.

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice on whether to have 1 or 2 blogs. The general consensus was to stick with 1 but to re-arrange it, which I am in the process of doing!

I will be back either tomorrow or monday, with pics of a fabulous new Wizard joining us at Wizards and Wands. I am just waiting for the right light to take some clear photos.
Have a great weekend,
Julia xx

  1. I can see already how great this is going to be! The flagstones are looking good even before they are painted. :o)) Hywel does make me laugh when he tell's when you can and cannot touch! lol

I'm also pleased to see one of these tiny shops, I'm not getting this kit, but I do plan on getting the other smaller ones and your's gives me an idea of space. I will be looking forward on seeing progress of this as it will be a while before I even start on mine! lol

  3. He can be a bit mean like that, Michele LoL I am allowed to touch now that he has officaily handed it over to me to decorate, he has even put it on a butchers block with wheels, so that I can work easily on it :0) I painted the flagstones yesterday and I used the little 'grass' you sent me! Boy, are they hard to get in place.. one at a time with a tweezers!! But, they look fabalous :0)

The shop is very small, but I managed to get a table, a broom cupboard, a shelving unit, a settle and a counter in, so I am very pleased with it that way :0)

  4. So he's officially handed it over to you now?! lol The butchers block is a great idea!

I'm surprised you got that much in! I'm having shop layout etc downstairs but in one of the shops I'm having a study area and from your photo's I can get an idea of how much space I have to play with...very useful. :o))

You're using tweezers for the blades of grass? lol lol I just grab and teeny tiny amount and shove it in the PVA and it just seems to stand up once it dries! If you look by Gustav's feet there are two places (so far) around the pentacle where I have added some tufts of grass. :o))

  5. Julia, Hywels done a great job on putting your shop, together. But your have all the fun, decorating and filling it. Like how you've art mached the front. I brought some Fimo light air dry clay yesterday. I'm going to give it a go on the Toll House. Spent last night drawing out the floor tiles, for the downstairs.xxx

Its a lovely little shop, those styles of window are so suited to Harry Potter! Individual blades of grass, that sounds like alot of work but worth it Im sure!

  7. Oh Michele, why didn't you tell me that before?!! I spent hours yesterday doing individual blades of grass with a tweezers!! I didn't think they would stand up on their own once the glue had dried!!!! ;0)

I was pleased with how much furniture we got in, but I did get hubby to make the counter and broom cupboard so that it would it all fit :0)

  8. Hi Debbie,
The art mache is down to Hywel, but I get to do the pretty bits... or in this case, the dirty, grungy bits Lol
Can't wait to see pics on yout Toll House, I bet your floor tiles are stunning. I haven't tried air drying fimo, did you get it locally?

  9. Hi Kate,
This is my 'treasures' shop. I am going to use it to put all the special miniatures I buy from fellow peeps and artists on Etsy. So far I have a pumpkin teapot from Lory, a couple of hats from Kat, some pumpkin jars from Nikki and I have commissioned a shopkeeper from Julie. The window is a great size and shape for one of Kat's Witches hats :0)

  11. Julia!!!!!! This is great! And you are making a whole little village (or shopping mall for witchies?) I love it! I'm really curious to see the Goblin Bank, LOL! What a cute idea. I'm sure that's a ways into the future yet though.

  12. That would be lovely, Kate, thankyou. I will be making your cushion this week too :0)
I forgot to add Glenda to the list. Glenda sent me a beautiful basket in the shop colours and some delicate hatpins, they are gorgoeus :0)

Fiver.. Yes, I am making a village, but it will be scattered around my house, due to lack of space!!!! The Goblin bank is hubby's project, I'm not allowed to interfere!!! LOL

  13. You have made so much progress Julia, you are obviously a great team!

Like Michelle I was very pleased to see the space inside the shop as a guide. My two smal shops are due to be Ollivander's and The Cauldron Shoppe. You seem to have got a lot more inside than I had hoped for.

I love to see how we all put our stamp on these kits and make them individual. Yours is already looking great.

  14. To be honest Janice, Hywel is trying to stop me getting bored whilst I am off sick, so he has rushed to put it together so that I have something to do when I am home alone all day, therefore I won't nag him by text!! LOL

I will do a post showing the furniture I have used and their sizes to give you a better idea. I was pleased with the amount of 'shop space' I have. I can't wait to see how you and Michelle do yours :0)

  16. It has so much more character with the art mache added- I'm amazed at how much you'll fit in there! I can't wait to see the grass you applied with tweezers! That is a dedicated miniaturist :)
