While I am away, the boys will play!!

Regular followers will know that I am 'snowed under' in work and literaly just coming home from work and sleeping ready for the next shift... far tooo hectic! My one day off yesterday was spent re-upholstering chairs and I am due back in work today in just under an hour... Hence the speed typing!!  But, yesterday, I did promise to show you all what my boys have been upto when I am in work and here it is....
Hywel has finished my library bookshelves and I had left printed scrolls and book fronts on the table and look... Hywel and Dean made a start at filling the shelves with scrolls and books :0)
Also, the fireplace is in situ, it just needs large crackling/glowing logs now. The floorboards are down and Aunt Agatha is sitting reading her book! Still heaps to do though.....

Have a great weekend,
Julia xx

  5. It loos so cosy! How does Hywel make the bookcases Julia? I need to make a floor to ceiling bookcase for Dumbledores study, want to make a start soon, have only ever worked with Balsa and not sure if that would work and then best way to make them? Any advice would be so welcome. The scrolls and books look great and Agatha is waiting on those children still eh, ! Kate xx

  11. Hi Kate,
Hywel made the bookcases with strips of hardwood, measured the height minus 2mm, glued all the strips together and then when they had dried, he cut shelves and glued them in, with the bookcase still lying flat. When dry, the 2mm gap should allow it to slot in the room nicely. I have used Balsa before, but I find it doesnt stain very well, mind you, I could of been doing something wrong! Also Balsa doesn't have the strength in it. Have you tried B&Q or Wickes? They sell good pine woodstrips by their mouldings stands, they are the right depth and can be glued together to make them wider.
Unfortunately, Aunt Agatha will have to wait a little longer for her children, perhaps she's enjoying the peace and quiet lol

  12. Hi Michele,
Hywel made the bookcases, I needed them floor to ceiling so we couldn't buy any in. I think the Wizards bookstore is moving too fast and I have told Hywel not to touch the wizard's snug in the attic, I want to take my time and enjoy making this one as new ideas come to mind. But will he listen? We'll see!! lol

  14. Thanks for the bookcase making tips Julia, will soon give it a go, need to drag John to a DIY store first. I have quite a lot of balsa furniture ,looks fab and is as light as a feather but worried on taking the weight of hundreds of books so will try another wood I think :-) Katexx
