Cushions for Victorian Villa

My houses have a distinct lack of my cushions, so over the last couple of weeks whenever I have had time, I have been stitching some cushions for my Victorian Villa. Last night, I finally finished sewing them up. I have tried to make them look old and a bit worn around the edges, but thats not an easy task for a sewing perfectionist like me! In the cushion on the furthest left, I tried to make some of the stitches look as if the cushion had been snagged, can you see the 'blob' of burgundy? It was a nightmare! I.ve also tried to get the edges to look well hugged and worn!

This is the reverse of one of the cushions. I have used some gorgoeus velvet that I had in my sewing box. It came from a stool ( now recovered) that I had from my grandmother over 20 years ago. The velvet has to be well over 70 years old and it is so soft and beautiful to sew. I only used a tiny bit, because I want to make Meg a vintage style bear and use the velvet for a jacket.

I've also been busy making some new wooden items for my Etsy store. The dresser has been waxed ready for dressing propely and the washstand has had a cream wash. Still more to do on those two! The little wooden bits are finished though, there are flower pots, dog treat pots, waxed hearts and stars, baskets, tissue holders and large floor vases. I had great fun! lol.

This week Ivy Cottage sold on Etsy and as we speak it is flying all the way to Australia. So Hywel will be begining work on a new cottage next week and I treated myself to my new project. After all the umming and arghing over what style, what period, which house, I finally went with something totally different. Actually.... it was when I was replying to Michele's comment on a previous post that the 'new project' lightbulb went off. lol

So, this will be my new project and it is due to be delivered in the next few days. It is going to be old blackened plaster and brick and will become Wizard & Wands Bookstore
I am going to be making hundreds of books in the next few months, I can feel it in my bones!!
Have a great day, Julia xx

  2. Love the new goodies Julia, youve been really busy! How exciting a new Harry potter themed shop , will be great. The shop looks similar style/ shape to the tea rooms, could you have changed the tea rooms to make it the new shop or is it impossible to strip the house of the compound etc and start again? I suppose its nice to work on a bare canvas. Im forever repainting and papering houses and shops and changing their theme and style, my diner/ tea rooms is soon to be repainted and made into the antique store! just waiting for some good weather to be able to take out some houses and paint them outdoors to save the mess!! 3. Hi Michele,
I must admit, I purposefully little clues for you for my new project lol. It is going to be a wizard shop downstairs with wands, mandrakes, etc, a bookstore upstairs and maybe a wizards den on the top floor. I can't wait to start it, I have made basic books before, but readable books and wands and wizard paraphenalia will be a great learning curve for me. Any hints and tips greatly welcomed :0)

  4. Hi Kate,
It is very similar to the teashop, just different windows. I couldn't strip the tearooms, after all the months of work that went into it, Hywel wouldn't be very pleased! I do redeorate inside some of houses though.
Glad you liked my new minis, they were nice to make.
