'The Bear Makers Table' ~ finished at last :)

I am so pleased to be able to share this with you all at long last... it has been a long time in the making, but I am absolutely thrilled with it.

May I proudly present....

The Bear Makers Table

Hand made by hubby, from Meranti hard wood, this table measures in at the grand old length of 25cms long by 7.5cms wide. It is a grand table with the edges carved and notched out and patches of worn wood where the bear maker has been busy with his craft.

I have spent hours (too many to dare count!!) making all the little individual bits and pieces for the Bear maker. There are tiny cut out patterns of bears, placed ready for the bear to be cut out of felt. There are little half made bears, some just needing their noses and eyes and then are some all ready to be popped in Santa's Sack.

There are glass jars of 'Bear Eyes' and buttons....
Spools of cotton and wooden jars of 'Paws' .....
Ribbons and bows....

A little Christmas tree and a plate of mince pies to keep up the Christmas cheer...

A Santa's toy list and a pocket watch to keep an eye on that all important time!

On the shelf under the table, there is a stack of books, felt sheets ready for bear making, a wooden bowl of cottons, a rag doll, fabric bolts and lots of bear stuffing

I have loved making this table and I have told Hywel he's not having it for the Christmas Cabin anymore!!!

The table also comes with a matching wooden bench....

and it is up for auction here :)

I hope you all love it as much as me.. I think the little floppy eared, pink nosed bear leaning against the Christmas tree is my favourite :)

  5. Thank you Kim, it is going to be hard to part with :]

I was thinking the same thing Nikki.. it is sitting on my dresser at the moment and I'm thinking it would make a super christmas decoration and... I have kind of gotten attatched to the little bear with the pink nose.. he was the first bear I made for this and he has sat there keeping me company whilst I made everything for the table :)
I have asked Hywel to make me a smaller table, so that I can make one to keep :)

  7. Julia, i was thinking when i should be working. You could make versions of this table on a smaller scale minus the table and do materials, with bobbons, thread, ribbons all scattered, and half made bears with little noses and eyes laying about, plus the pattern and buttons etc.

  9. It's good news to hear in your comment that you're up to make a smaller one, you should really do that, I'd bet you'd regret it otherwise someday... Your table is absolutely gorgeous, everything's on it that's needed (ok, yours is very tidy and neat, I never achieve that while working on my bears - lol) and your little bears are beautiful. Wonderful idea!

    Greetings

  11. Yes, I was thinking something along those lines Nikki, but on a smaller table. It's not often I make bears these days, but they are perfect for this time of year, so I am going to make the most of being in a bear making mood :)

    Thanks Kate and Birgit :)

Kate, do you reckon I should nag Hywel to make a Bear makers cottage for one to go in? ;) He did for Gertie!! I can imagine the look on his face now and hear the loud NO LOL

  16. Beautiful and brimming with lots of love and pride. I bet you had a blast putting this together! I love the little pot- I have the same paw and bone - may I borrow your idea and add mine to a glass jar (no wood jars around here) for my own collection of course. I figure it would make a great jar for keeping the puppy's kibbles & bits :)

  18. Thank you everybody for your great comments... this table seems to of made everybody smile, which is fab :) Hywel started carving the legs for a smaller one last night, but I think I may make a Bear Makers Cupboard first, my ideas are flowing! :)

Lisa, of course you can borrow my idea for your collection. If you are using a glass jar you can put fimo cane slices of doggy biscuits inside :) I have a little wooden pot with a little pet fooding bowl and some nibbles in my Etsy store, if you pop over you will be able to see it closer up :)

  19. Oh my god it is perfect and I want it so much! I am doing a Christmas house, for Mr and Mrs Claus, and Elves all set with workshop (which I already have a dolls house making table for, and a workbench) and which this would definitely fit into!!! I have a desk too made especially for me, with Santas list on!!!

Oh I hope I can find the money to bid on it!!!

  20. Thank you Kel, your Christmas House sounds wonderful and perfect for this table. I have a christmas Cabin which I bring out every year, it is very battered but I love it, it always makes me feel cheery peeking through the windows :)

  21. Julia - I saw the pet food bowl you mentioned - so cute that the cat bowl is shaped like a fish! Now I have to decide if I want a doggie or a kitty to reside in my little houses. Maybe a cat for the gothic house and a doggie for the fairy house? Hmmm decisions decisions.

  22. Hi Lisa, If your house is anything like ours, we have both... a kitty and a dog :) LOL
