Miniatura ~ Part 2 and the beginings of a new project

Hywel bought me this wonderful sleeping witch from Jain of Giddy kipper dolls for my birthday. She was one of those inspiration moments! The minutue I clapped eyes on her, I knew she just had to come home and live with us lol. As my regular followers know, I love the Ivy Cottages that Hywel makes for our Etsy store and I had been toying with an idea to make one of our Ivy Cottages into an old cottage for a witch and she had to be a messy witch with the cottage tumbling down around her and a very overgrown garden! So, when I saw 'Gertrude' she fired that idea up again. I did moan to Jain that I would have to design a scene all around her now, lol ;0)

Isn't she wonderful :0) Her green hair has proved a hit with the kids and her chair is wonderfully dirty and threadbare. I am going to try and get a little mouse to sit on the back of her chair, looking over her shoulder :0)

I bought this barewood dresser with the birthday money my eldest daughter gave me. It was quite pricey for a barewood item, but I haven't seen one this shape before. It has potbellied drawers and the shape is just lovely. Sheri was 'babysitting' the other two monsters for us to go to Miniatura, so of course, when we got home, she had to sit through my 'What do you think of this? ...and look at this.... ' When I showed her the wardrobe she instantly said it reminded her of the Beauty and the Beast film... her favourite childhood film, if we watched it once, we watched it 1,000 times and no, I'm not exaggerating, I'm surprised the video never wore out, yes, it was videos in that day!! LOL Anyway, I am going to wax and age this to go in the witches bedroom and fill the shelves with battered hats and witchy shawls.

And finally, I bought this cut little teapot which will eventually sit on a messy table :-)

Well, thats it, wonderful birthday buys and a new project for the future. I think I did very well :0)

Off for a cup of tea now, have a great day,

Julia xx

  1. Julia I'm totally in Love with your sleepy Witch. She's wonderful. That wardrobe you brought can also be used as a baby house, decorated inside and then 144th Scale Furniture put inside. xxx

  3. She is adorable Julia, I think Id have snapped her up too!! Its exciting to have people doing similar projects, 3 of us doing a mandrake conservatory, and us and Nikki have witches houses! And they will all be so different thats the beauty of it all having different ideas and designs! Cant wait to see the project evolve, have you a room box or house for her to go in?
Before I read your posting I saw that wardrobe and thought wow that looks just like the one in Beauty and the Beast and then you said it! We too had to watch it over and over, tried to get it on Ebay on dvd but its really pricey for some reason! I love the wardrobe and its perfect for a witch!

  4. Hi Nikki,
Yes, it was lovely to meet Julie and Jain and have a chat in the 'real' world and not just the virtual world! We had a great time at Miniatura, thankyou.

  5. Hi Kate,
I don't have anywhere for her go yet, so she will have to live in a corner of my dresser for now, untill her cottage is ready! It will be great all of us doing similar things, we can swap tips :0) If I come across a Beauty and The Beast DVD, I will give you a shout, they seem to still be very popular.
Have a great day, Julia xx

  6. Julia what truly wonderful presents! I LOVE the sleeping witch, she IS wonderful! I love her chair equally! ;o)) The garlic teapot is fantastic! I am so looking forward to seeing the mini's available at KDF. ;o))

Debbie is correct, the little dresser you bought it used as a cabinet to house a 144/th dolls house for a dollshouse (that's why it was expensive) and the middle shevles are where the stairs go. ;o)) I'm sure you will work wonders on the little cabinet.

What a wonderul day you had. :o)

  7. Hi Michele,
You are going to have a treat at KDF and I want a full report, maybe one day I will get there too!
Well, I laughed at myself when you said about the 'stairs' in the dresser/wardrobe. I was puzzling over what those two little bits were for... they are stairs!! lol I didn't click when Debbie said.. it was only when you said stairs that I realised! -.:0(
Im off for another cuppa to see if I can wake my brain up..duh!

I've been also looking at that cabinet but haven't ordered it as I thought that the stairs are built in, but thanks to you I know now they're not. Guess what I'm going to shop :D

  13. You did very well. I like the witch's face and love that dresser. You're right - it is unusual for a barewood item.
